Project Description:
To create natural and organic buildings, challenging and irregular in form and with complex geometries while still complying with current practice, design codes and legislation.
This objective was achieved by significant use of the traditional pacific structural forms – the structurally efficient and naturally occurring arch in structures . These structures are generally simply supported allowing simplicity in connections.
Traditional lashed connections rationalised by the use of concealed steel plates and bolts.
A combination of glued laminated timber and locally sourced natural timber was used to achieve the complex shapes with laminated technology helping with the larger scale and complex geometries of some of the buildings.
Local timbers are used to great effect in the internal finishes, creating a warm welcoming and living interior environment.
The use of timber in this project has contributed greatly to creating a resort that is integrated into the environment – blending into the natural beauty of the location while providing high levels of amenity and luxury.
