Project Description:
Auckland City Council (now Auckland Council) wanted to develop a facility that would assist the local police and community groups to boost self-esteem and reduce crime in the local youth community.
Wood has always featured in the palette of materials used by Pacific Environments Architects. It has a natural human warmth that few other materials can emulate and is more forgiving against marks from robust community use than paint finish materials.
The entire south side of this project is a heavily textured timber façade designed to give a “Pacific” feel to the building as a reference to one of the most culturally diverse communities in New Zealand. Flatter textured timber walls will serve as a back drop for future proposed coloured art work lights which will “pulse” to music.
Timber has also been used on the sports hall floor, lining above pre cast panels and an oval supervisor pod office.
