Project Description:
A property sited in a semi-rural area on the hills overlooking Papakura, orientated true North to maximise passive solar heat gain and for solar hot water systems.  The house is formed to sit into the site and to be a ‘story’ point for visitors and family members alike.

The use of sustainable products and to leave exposed timber structures was the primary brief for this home with guest accommodation and an open plan living utilising natural materials and sunlight wherever possible.  The connection between the living and the second floor was to be ‘transparent’ but with a sense of strength.

The main cladding/structural component is the sustainable Timbercrete blocks that uses over 50% of waste wood shavings from the mills, has a high thermal factor, is warm to touch and has an extremely high acoustic performance.

A final endorsement from our client:  “I wouldn’t change a thing in the house, it has met all my expectations and more.”
