Centrepiece of Opunake Primary School’s Te Putahi Ako (Learning Centre) is seemingly simple “draped cloak” canopy featuring shaped Glulam laminated timber beams and timber ribs.
Light and open, diaphragm bracing to the roof planes bracing is concealed in the architecture through the perimeter and ridge plywood roofing / soffit panels. Timber detailing of joints is neatly crafted with no exposed fixings further strengthening the elegance of the structure, with the form acknowledging the strong relationship between school and local Iwi.
