Project Description:
The original 1910 house was constructed almost entirely of native hardwood (predominantly Matai and Rimu) from framing, flooring, windows and weatherboards.
The refurbishment and alterations have continued the timber theme, with the difference that the cedar clad additions celebrate the warmth and natural texture of the timber rather than coating with paint.
Further distinction has been provided by using rusticated profile boards (as opposed to the original bevelback), fine corner coverboards and chunky window coverboards (rather than the original wide examples) to provide depth to the window openings.
The junction between the original house and modern additions have been softened by the use of semi-transparent slatted Vitex timber screens which attach either side of the new additions and provide privacy to the entry and garden.
