Project Description:
Architectus Auckland has created a warm, elegant and refined setting for the Employment and Environment Courts, known collectively as Special Jurisdictions. Comprising two courtrooms, a smaller multifunction court and associated registries, Judges Chambers and Commissioners rooms, all installed within an existing building adjacent to the Auckland District Court.

Central to creating this environment has been the extensive use of New Zealand timber creating a timber “cocoon” which gently wraps the courtrooms and the public areas. The same timber was carried though into the fittings and desks in the courtrooms and chambers.

It was fundamental that all timber was sourced from certified sustainable suppliers. After much research we were able to source a New Zealand FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified timber, Southland Beech. Not only did it satisfy the sustainability credentials it proved to be a very rich and warm timber which created the relaxed ambience we were trying to achieve.
