Project Description:
Whether old or new, this project uses timber extensively in its construction and finish. The original 1910 house was constructed almost entirely of native hardwood (predominantly Matai and Rimu) from framing, flooring, windows and weatherboards.

The refurbishment and alterations have continued the timber theme. The decorative cedar screen at the street frontage; the metaphoric cloak, is a striking feature that provides an identity to the client and building. The new additions are all clad in timber weatherboards to match the existing.

New timber window and door joinery is used throughout. The new kitchen and office joinery is built from clear finished poplar plywood. Hardwood is used for the landscaping, in forming decks, stairs, screens and seating.

The project has been enhanced by the natural properties of timber. Timber has provided warmth, texture, strength, durability and versatility in all its forms.
