Project Description:
The brief required an energy efficient four bedroom home suitable for a young family, to complement their sustainable ethos. In addition the clients wanted a house that would sit comfortably with its neighbouring villas and make the most of the city views and sun.
The heritage nature and Residential 1 zoning of the area meant there were rigorous restrictions imposed regarding the front façade of the house. In response we provided a symmetrical frontage with a central solid-Cedar front door, a classic feature of the surrounding villas.
The house is clad with locally sourced Macrocarpa weatherboards, pre-finished with a water based stain, and consists of two main blocks separated by a link containing the dining room and home office. Situated within the two blocks is a sheltered courtyard, providing a flat area for children to play and a private sanctuary from the busy street.
