A host of events are underway throughout New Zealand during the Rugby World Cup showcasing innovations in the wood industry. (Read the Winning With Wood newsletter for details of all events here.)
The aim of the Winning with Wood initiative, which is supported by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, is to promote New Zealand as a leading provider of high quality wood and wood products and attract buyers and investors to the country.
As part of the initiative a National Wood Innovation Showcase is being held nationwide during September and October. This includes displays by manufacturers of structural timber and other innovative wood products:
• Glulam manufacturer, Mcintosh Timber Laminates’s Auckland facility, 9 Bostock Place, East Tamaki.
• Jenkin Timber’s timber cladding systems at the company’s Auckland factory, 99 The Concourse, Henderson or at the Home Ideas Centre, The Strand, Parnell.
• Lockwood solid wood homes, 61 Fairy Springs Rd, Rotorua. The display also features an outdoor living room using outdoor wood products manufacturer, Verda’s decking, fencing, balustrades and furniture made of sustainable pine.
• TaranakiPine, manufacturer of engineered wood products and building components from sustainable pine, Hudson Rd, Bell Block, New Plymouth.
• Kanuka Engineered Wood Products, 18 Irongate Rd, Hastings. A chance to view the company’s custom-designed and built commercial, industrial and utility buildings.
• Tour of NMIT arts and media building, 61 Nile St, Nelson, which has used structural timber technology and locally produced timber material.
• Tour of earthquake-resistant EXPAN demonstration building developed by the Structural Timber Innovation Company, head office, Canterbury University, Engineering Rd, Christchurch.
NZTE Bay of Plenty Regional Manager, Lionel Crawley, says the Innovation Showcase is making use of existing venues wherever possible. “These could be high profile wooden buildings, retail stores, show homes, tourist sites or office lobbies.
“The important ingredient is that each site features high quality branded wooden products, innovative wood design and construction or new applications of technology to create high value products or solutions.”
